Born Butterworth, Cape Province, 11th April 1916. Son of Anton Rector Kolbe Barry and Dorothy, nee Nankivel. Ed, Victoria High School, Grahamstown.

Austen Kolbe Barry joined the Clan Line in 1934, in which he served during the first two years of the war.

He then enlisted with the RAF and was killed in an air operation on enemy shipping off the Island of Patmos in the Aegean Sea on the night of 2nd February 1944.
