The Next Pursers Reunion - 2022

1st & 2nd October

Earlier this week it was a delight to hear a voice well known to most of us with a request on Classic FM.  It was Robbie Rutt asking for Vaughan Williams "Folk Songs from Somerset" to celebrate Somerset Day (11th May).

I'm sure that most of us are looking forward to meeting up with family and friends and hearing those familiar voices that have been missing for so long.

A couple of months ago our President Jamie Cayzer-Colvin together with his PA Catharina called a Committee meeting by Zoom with Colin Deller, Gerry Cartwright, Barrie Davis and myself  to discuss plans for our next triennial gathering.

There was enthusiastic discussion around the possibilities to entertain us all on the Sunday following our Saturday party and we all agreed on the idea of a nostalgic cruise down Southampton Water and the Solent as far as The Needles with a luncheon reception at an appropriate hostelry before sailing back to Southampton in the late afternoon.

We left the meeting to chew over the proposals before settling on the details.

As good and efficient Pursers we do have a concern for the money and looming large in our minds was the cost of chartering the vessel. We scratched our heads for a while and then the following extract of a message from Jamie appeared on our screens:

Dear Mike

I think it fair to say that the Sunday trip might benefit from a kindly sponsor and therefore the boat trip, lunch and wine would be covered.......All the best, Jamie"

At a stroke our problems were resolved and we  are writing to confirm that the 16th of our triennial gatherings will be held over the weekend  Saturday and Sunday 1st and 2nd October 2022.

The plans are now being put in place and our usual venue, the Holiday Inn Southampton has confirmed our booking .  Full details of the plans with ticket price and hotel charges will be sent towards the end of the year and meanwhile do reserve the date in your diaries!

We hope that you are well and as keen as we are to get together again to share old memories of those wonderful ships, shipmates, the passengers and the adventures we enjoyed half a century ago.

On behalf of Jamie, Colin, Barrie, Gerry and myself we send you our best wishes and trust that you'll make every effort to join the party!
