Born Durban, 30 November 1910. Son of William Evan Clark and Eleanor Evelyn; ed Mansfield Road School, Durban; cadet draft 1925/26. In 1927 William Evan Clark joined the Union-Castle Mail Steamship Co, as Cadet and served in the Merchant Navy until 29 October 1942, when he was released to join the SANF. He was on his way out from England on priority passage to take up the post of Lieutenant, SANF, since he could not be attested in London, when the Ceramic, on which he was travelling, was torpedoed and sunk, and he lost his life on 7 December 1942
