Thanks for very interesting site . I am granddaughter of ship's carpenter John Charles Carter who sailed on Stirling Castle during WW2 and on a few voyages to Sydney as a troop carrier in 1945 and 1946 .
Can you suggest any way I could find out more about his voyages etc ? He was also on Andes and I think that must have been in WW1. I wish I'd asked my parents a few more questions but I was too young to take it all in .
Also on your crew lists I notice that 'carpenter ' Is in same section as Master and Boatswain . Does that mean it was an important crew position ? What did the chippie do on board ?
