William C Tipson

Email Received 30 December 2013

I was wondering if you are able to give me any information on Sergeant William C Tipson who I believe was a Caterer on the Gaika in 1911. I’m not sure if he was crew or a passenger on the ship. He embarked in Mauritius. He was my husband’s Grandfather and we are trying to piece together information about him.

As you can see I have created a page for William Tipson in the “People Search” section.

Gaika was used as a troopship during WW1 and was at one time chartered to the Australian Government for carrying their troops. A web site exists “Digger History” this may be of help to you.

I found another site “Hughies Letters” containing letters from a soldier that sailed on Gaika in WW1. On that site you will find links to many other sites that may be of help to you.

If anyone else knows anything about William Tipson please use this email link to contact Maxine and myself

In the meantime if you do find out anything please let me know and I can add it to this page.

Regards

Chris
