I have today received the following letter from James Kirkbride which I think it appropriate to copy in full:
It is with great sadness that I am writing to tell you that Bill passed away on Friday evening. Although he was pleased that so many people were able to send their wishes and regards after Thursday he never really recovered enough to get out of bed.
He was able to move to the Sunrise Home Sevenoaks with Barbara last week but succumbed to the cancer on Friday evening. Mark tells me that he passed away gently after saying his goodbyes.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday 15th August at 10.30 in St Mark's Church, Broadwater Down, Tunbridge Wells with thereafter a private cremation.
The funeral service will be followed by refreshments at one of their favourite spots the Spa Hotel on Mt. Ephraim Rd to which all who knew Bill are most welcome.
I know that Bill would really like any donations in lieu of flowers to be made to the RNLI which was dear to his heart for many years. There will be a plate at the church or please send to the funeral directors, E R Hickmott & Sons, 41 Grove Hill Rd, Tunbridge Wells TN1 1SD.
Mark's wife Sue who is a minister will conduct the service in partnership with Revd. Sue Diggory curate at St. Mark's. The family would all like to see as many of Bill's family and friends as is possible to celebrate his life.
