William Woods

From the Review, December 1967. Retirements:

Mr Woods commenced with Union-Castle Line in Balmoral Castle in 1927 and after serving as assistant steward and assistant storekeeper was appointed chief steward of the Rovuma in 1947, followed by Samsteel, Richmond Castle and Kenilworth Castle.     He transferred to intermediate and mail vessels as second steward (later second catering officer) and returned to cargo ships in 1966 as purser-chief steward Tantallon Castle.   "Timber" Woods's last ship was Capetown Castle and he took her to Italy for scrapping the trip was the third such that he had made, he having also had a one-way passage on Winchester castle and Athlone Castle,
