I have been browsing through the web and looked up the Union-Castle Line.
I was at sea for 11 years, mainly sailing from Liverpool, Cunard, C.P.R. (Canadian Pacific Railway), P.S.N.C. (Pacific Steam Navigation Company) and various smaller companies.
I did just three trips on the Pretoria Castle,1/c waiter, November 1959-April 1960. I enjoyed the job, and the run, especially East London, when we went for an hour on the beach after having served breakfast.
After leaving the Pretoria Castle I sailed on the Empress of Britain, and the Empress of France, unfortunately 1960 was a bad year as we were on strike for most of that period.
When everything settled down I joined the 'Oriana for what was her maiden voyage , and my last trip to sea.
